Jim is a professional drummer & drum teacher. He has been playing piano since age five, and drums since at 9. Jim has been doing gigs since middle school. After graduation from college in 2002, Jim has played in a number of bands across Western New York.

After graduating from Kenmore West, Jim majored in Jazz Performance at Villa Maria College under the guidance of the late great bass player Jim Kurzdorfer (original bassist of Spyro Gyra). He played in the Jazz band there as well. He also studied drums with Gary Rutkowski, and John Bacon while at Villa. Jim graduated with a 2 year degree in Jazz performance in 2002 at Villa Maria College.
From 2000-2002, he also played drums in area Heavy Metal Band, "Down Culture," which also one various battle of the bands. Jim also played with Nightlife Magazine music award winners of "Best New Original band in 2002," Skyjuice. New Clear Fusion was a band Jim played in from 2004-2010, which did all kinds of tours and festivals . Jim is also known for playing drums for local area bands which include, "The Big Sauce Trio," "The Family Dinner," "Effective Resolution," & "The W.A.K.O.S." Bands he currently gigs out with include, Blues/Classic Rock Jam band, THE BIG SAUCE TRIO, which you can catch LIVE every Wednesday, 8PM-12AM @ Alternative Brews Cigar Bar, In between Sweet Home & Millersport in Amherst. The Family Bacon Funk Machine, which is an original funk/jam band, & The Jim Levinthal Band, which also plays blues, classic rock & jam band material. Jim has shared stages with National recording artists which include: Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Rusted Root, U-Melt, Donna The Buffalo Walter Trout, Godsmack, Little Kim, Nas, Antigone Rising, The Breakfast, Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad, Shoeless Revolution, Roster Mccabe, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds &, Ikebe Shakedown.
Jim also teaches drum lessons out of his home, at Buffalo Music Center, Boulevard Music Center, and does studio recordings.
