the women in data science (wids) datathon is a data-focused competition for beginners and experienced data scientists alike. this year’s competition challenges participants to think about long-term weather forecasting, which can aid communities who need to adapt to extreme weather events as a result of climate change. for phase i, which runs from early january to early march 2023, participants will submit forecasts of temperature and precipitation, competing against other teams as well as official forecasts from noaa.
